DELIA MURPHY was a renowned singer of her day who gave the Irish ballad international recognition and ensured its everlasting appeal.

Music by Gerry Anderson playing and talking you through Delia’s career, drawing on his knowledge of the singer as the first inspiration of his own development as a folk balladeer and traditional musician, and looking at her place in Irish music and the people she inspired as Ireland’s first lady of song.

Song  Some of Delia’s much loved and remembered favourites such as The Spinning Wheel and If I were a Blackbird, sung by actress and singer Máirín O'Donovan, accompanied by Gerry with a chance for the audience to join in!

Talk  The life and times of her famous aunt by Carmen Cullen niece of Delia Murphy, followed by a dramatised reading from her own novel Two Sisters Singing, inspired by a larger than life Delia. Carmen is a published poet and playwright and was awarded an M.Phil in Creative Writing from Trinity College Dublin in February 2009.

This sketch was adapted by Hilda Roche from the Pam Ayres' poem 'I wish I'd looked after me teeth' for a national ICA drama competition, for which Ashford ICA triumphed as national winners.

Ashford ICA drama group enter the Glenealy One Act Festival each November and the Bray One Act Festival in January as well as other ICA drama competitions. In 2009 they won the design/set award at the Bray Festival with a farce 'The Million Dollar Lunch by Fred Carmichael set in the future when there was no food just pills! Last November they won the Glenealy festival with 'The Allotment' by Gillian Plowman. For their next production they are planning to stage the female version of 'The Odd Couple' by Neil Simon.

Paul Sharkey performs a selection of Jocular Monologues, Humorous Recitations & Whimsical Poetry celebrating the golden age of the Music Hall. Featuring Monologues of George Robey, Stanley Holloway, Benny Hill, Marriott Edgar & more.

Paul Sharkey is one of the founder members of the multi award winning Crois Dearg Drama Group, Redcross and has appeared in most of the group’s productions including their All Ireland One-Act Festival winning production After Magritte by Tom Stoppard.
Paul began acting in 1975, when he joined the Brendan Smith Theatre Academy. He has worked with a number of Dublin based drama groups and, in 1980, played hamlet with the Dublin Shakespeare Society. In 1981, following his move to Wicklow, Paul co-founded Harlequin Players with his wife Liz. For ten years Harlequin provided corporate entertainment and Dinner Theatre, including shows based on the work of Charles Dickens, James Joyce and Oscar Wilde, for Tinakilly House Hotel. During the same period he compiled and performed shows for the Synge and Parnell Summer Schools. He has been a regular performer with the Space Inside and recently performed in the Tinahely Courthouse Cafe.
Paul has also appeared on RTE Television with two appearances on John Player Tip Tops Variety Show and two Padraic O’Conaire stories in the Ten Minute Tales series (1987). He also performed on RTE Radio in Kevin Hough’s Theatre Nights.
Paul’s current show Delectation & Delight is inspired by a lifetime love of the Music Hall and Variety Stage.
